Ulf Buergel
Partner - Operations
Ulf joined Resilience in 2007 when he was the President & CEO of Penda Corporation, a Resilience Fund II portfolio company. After leading Penda from 2004 to 2011, he became a full time Operating Partner with Resilience in 2011. He currently serves on the board of several Resilience portfolio companies. Ulf has over 30 years of experience in the plastics producing and converting industry. In his role as President & CEO of Penda, he led the repositioning of the company from a struggling bedliner producer, to the leading automotive accessories thermoformer and tier I automotive components supplier. He was instrumental in the divestiture of two non-core subsidiaries in 2006, the sale of the company to Resilience in 2007 and the merger with Penda’s largest competitor, Durakon Industries in 2009.
Prior to joining Penda, Ulf had worked at Dow Chemical in Germany, Switzerland and the USA. He held various senior level positions during his 20 year career with Dow, and gained extensive experience in managing business operations in North America, Europe and Asia. As part of his global responsibility at Dow, he served on the Board of Directors for Somitomo-Dow Limited, Japan and LG-Dow, Korea. Ulf has a successful track record in M&A, operational restructuring, strategy development, building executive teams, and applying management principles including but not limited to Six Sigma (green belt), lean manufacturing, theory of constraints, value based management and integrated supply chain principles. Ulf holds a Master of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bremen, Germany and an MBA from the City University of Zurich, Switzerland.
